Bulldogs Bounce Back With Win in Canmore

The Blackfalds Bulldogs came into their Thursday night matchup, against the Canmore Eagles, still in search of their first win of November. The Eagles found themselves in the same boat as the Bulldogs, having also lost their first two games of the month. A win for Blackfalds would send them into a tie for third place in the south division, while Canmore could move to within two points of Blackfalds in fourth with a victory of their own.

After three-quarters of the first period had elapsed without a goal, Jason Siedem and Ashton Funk would both score within two minutes of each other to give Blackfalds a 2-0 lead after one. Owen Jones would get a goal back for the Eagles in the second period, but Bill Gourgon, Brett Meerman, and Spencer Bell would each score, with Meerman and Bell notching their goals on the powerplay, to extend Blackfalds’ lead to 5-1 through two periods.

Blackfalds would largely put the game into cruise control in the third period, responding to a Kyle Young goal with one of their own, as Tanner Willick’s goal gave him his 26th point through just 21 games this season. Willick’s goal snapped a rare slump for the defenceman, coming off back-to-back games without a point.

Blackfalds’ powerplay went 2/4 on the night while Matthew Hennessey made 28 saves in the Bulldogs’ win. The victory snaps a two-game slide, meaning the Bulldogs still have yet to lose three straight games at any point this season. The Bulldogs now have a three-game homestand, starting on Saturday, before they close out the month of November with a four-game road trip.
