Recently signed forward, Layne Loomer, was on-hand for the recent Bulldogs Foundation Inaugural Golf Tournament over the weekend.

Loomer (Lethbridge, Alta.), who signed his Letter of Intent (L.O.I.) with the Blackfalds Bulldogs in February, was out volunteering at the Bulldogs inaugural golfing event. The event helped raise funds for the Bulldogs Foundation, which supports various charitable initiatives in central Alberta. It also brought together local business partners and community sponsors, along with Bulldogs players, alumni and staff, for a fun day of golf at the Lacombe Golf & Country Club and it was a great opportunity for Loomer to get introduced to the community and a few of his new teammates.

“It’s been a lot of fun,” Loomer expressed. “They’ve been running a great event, it’s well organized, top tier and very classy!”

Last season (2021-22) Loomer played in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) as a member of Northern Alberta Xtreme U18 Prep, putting up impressive numbers. (He also appeared in 5 games for Okotoks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) in 2021-22). He expressed his excitement at the prospect of being a member of the Bulldogs heading into the upcoming AJHL season.

“I’ve been playing in Edmonton for the last two years, so coming to central Alberta and Blackfalds next season, I’m pretty excited for that,” Loomer explained. “I feel I’m a versatile two-way forward, I like to make my teammates better around me and I feel I can play any position that is needed to help the team win.”

In a statement earlier this year, Bulldogs assistant GM, Adam West, shared a similar sentiment about what to expect from the young forward.

“Layne is a dynamic offensive player with great instincts and a nose for the net,” West revealed. “We look forward to adding him alongside our young, skilled core.”

Loomer appeared in 34 games for NAX in 2021-22, registering 17 goals and 33 assists (50 Pts.) adding 20 penalty-minutes.
