ATHLETIC THERAPIST/EQUIPMENT MANAGER
Description: The Athletic Therapist/Equipment Manager is responsible for managing all injury related needs of the athletes such as assessment, treatment (or co-ordination of), documentation, injury reporting and maintaining relationships with other local health care professionals. Previous hockey team experience would be an asset. This is a fast-paced work environment that encourages equal opportunity and is teamwork oriented. Must work closely with the coaching staff with respect to day-to-day operations and affairs of the hockey club. The successful applicant will report to the Head Coach and General Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluation, Management, Rehabilitation and Documentation of Athletic Injuries
- Coordinate with physicians/medical personnel on care of players.
- Maintain all medical records pertaining to treatment required and coordination of medical insurance claims.
- Provide medical coverage at all practice sessions and games both home and away.
- Communicate with coaching staff and management on all matters related to player injuries and illnesses and the required rehab, remedy and developing a return to play plan for each injury.
- Able to wrap ankles, wrists, knees, shoulders, etc.
- Keep an up-to-date Inventory of medical equipment.
Equipment Management and Repair
- Manage stick and equipment orders.
- Maintain team equipment: sharpen skates, perform minor fixes.
- Keep an up-to-date inventory record of all equipment and order as required.
- Repair broken equipment quickly and efficiently during games and/or practice.
Laundry and Apparel Maintenance
- Ensure the players apparel, jerseys, and towels are laundered daily.
- Keep an up-to-date inventory of team gear and order as required.
- Order name bars for jerseys.
- Capable of small sewing repairs
Road Trip Management
- Travel with the team to away games.
- Prepare and pack for road trips.
- Organize hotel and food for road trips.
Qualifications:
- Athletic Therapist certification (CATA)
- Criminal Record Check
- Valid Standard First Aid/CPR/First Responder Certifications from a Recognized Institution
- A minimum of 2 years of prior experience in junior, college or professional hockey is preferred.
- Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
Additional Details
- Salary will be based on experience and certification.
- This position requires non-standard hours.
- Presence at team practices, pre-season camps and all games is a requirement.
