The Blackfalds Bulldogs are proud to announce the commitment of Layne Loomer to Augustana University in NCAA Division 1. Loomer (’05) has 12 goals and 24 points through 33 games with the Bulldogs so far in his rookie season. Loomer played the last two seasons with the Northern Alberta Xtreme organization in the CSSHL. Last season he scored 50 points in 34 games with the U18 team.

Loomer says he’s excited to have achieved a goal he was working towards.

“It’s been really cool, exciting,” said Loomer. “Few weeks ago was first contact, they came and watched a game here… got the offer, I took a little bit of time but I knew it was the right place for me.”

Bulldogs Director of Hockey Operations, Al Parada, says that Loomer’s skill and hockey IQ are impressive, but that he’s been more blown away with Loomer’s work ethic throughout the season.

“Here’s a kid who gets mono in the summertime… he can’t even come to camp and start playing right away,” said Parada. “He’s just worked his butt off. He’s the first one in the gym, the last one to leave every night. It’s nice to see guys like that get rewarded.”

Loomer gives his teammates credit for helping him make a successful adjustment from the CSSHL to the AJHL, saying “The guys here make it really easy to get used to everything. It’s been really good so far.”

Parada also praised Loomer’s ability to help the team with his versatility and ability to play in any situation.

“He can play up and down the lineup, he can play from the fourth line all the way up and he makes everyone around him better,” said Parada.

Loomer joins Brett Meerman, Jason Siedem, and Connor Dick as Bulldogs to earn an NCAA commitment this season. Meerman, 20, committed to Augustana earlier in the season. Loomer said that it’s exciting to look ahead to the possibility of playing with his current captain later in the NCAA.

“I like to play with him here, and hopefully, I’ll get the chance to play with him down there.”

The entire Bulldogs organization would like to congratulate Layne and his family on his commitment and wish him the best of luck at Augustana University!
