Bulldogs Sign Matt Hanscom

The Blackfalds Bulldogs are pleased to announce the signing of 2005-born defenceman, Matt Hanscom, to a letter of intent for the 2023-2024 AJHL Season.

The Hadley, Massachusetts product plays for Westminster School Martlets in the Preparatory United States High School (USHS-Prep) and for Yale Jr. Bulldogs U18 AAA. Hanscom already has an NCAA commitment to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

Hanscom is looking forward to joining the Bulldogs, “I’m honoured and excited to have the opportunity to play with the Bulldogs and join the Blackfalds community. I know the coaches and staff will do everything to help me develop as a player and person. I can’t wait to put on a Bulldogs jersey and start this new chapter.”

Bulldogs Assistant General Manager, Adam West, is thrilled with the addition of Hanscom, “Matt is an exciting addition for our team for next season. Having already secured an athletic scholarship to RPI, we feel privileged that Matt chose to come develop as a player in Blackfalds before heading to NCAA Division 1 Hockey. 

West described Hanscom as “a strong, physical defender who is adept at out-battling opposing players in his own end and throwing big checks, while his skating ability allows him to make smart plays up ice where he can put other defenders on their heels.”
