After losing two of their first three games, Blackfalds had turned their fortunes around, using a 6-3 win at home to the Brooks Bandits as the spark to start a three-game winning streak, most recently defeating Whitecourt at the 2022 AJHL Showcase. On the other hand, Drumheller had a less than fruitful AJHL Showcase, losing both of their games at the Eagle Builders Centre over the weekend.

Through the first half of the hockey game tonight, it seemed the Bulldogs had the game in control. Despite giving up the first goal, the Bulldogs battled back scoring three straight goals from Jason Siedem, Layne Loomer and Tanner Willick.

Drumheller managed to rally before the end of the second period, with Dylan Glinsky and Vann Yuhas scoring goals to tie the game 3-3. Glinsky would score again in the third, followed by Will Christian’s first of the season. Then, Ty Daneault’s second of the game gave Drumheller a 6-3 lead and eventually their third win of the season.

Despite the loss, Bulldogs captain Brett Meerman added three assists to bring his season point total to 14 Pts. (4G, 10A). At the end of the day Tuesday, Meerman’s 4 goals and 10 assists had him leading the league in scoring, and is currently the only player in the AJHL to have an average of two points per game or above.

Blackfalds will have Wednesday and Thursday off before a run of three games in four days, starting in Fort McMurray on Friday night.
