Rich Wiest is from Enchant Alberta. Rich played in the WHL from 1983 to 1988 and was drafted to the New York Islanders in 1985. Rich started his coaching career in 1988/89 with the Lethbridge Golden Hawks AAA where the team won the 1989 Purolator Cup. He continued his coaching career from there and in 1990/91 went back to the WHL where he was the Assistant Coach for the Lethbridge Hurricanes for the next 3 years. Rich then went on to coach minor hockey at all levels as his own boys went up the ranks. Rich is still highly involved in ensuring the development of young players with his continued ownership and involvement in VERSET Skill Camp out of Taber Alberta. You can always find Rich around the rink watching his sons coach, his step-sons and grandkids play, all while still enjoying everything about the game.
